Discdog

Many must have wondered what else the Karelian Bear Dog can do besides hunting, search and rescue, and dog shows…

Based on our experience, ALL!

Today, I present to you the AI Canun Discdog Team, our discdog team, composed of 4 canine members: the Rottweiler Ozzy, the Border Collies Cheza and Skye, and more recently, Capi, our Karelia.

For those unfamiliar, disc dog is a team sport (a human/dog duo) in which we humans throw discs appropriate to a specific discipline and our four-legged companion tries to catch them in mid-air. It's a contagious sport, lots of fun, and one where we can travel and meet many people!

It's a sport that requires a lot of patience and some physical fitness, both from us and the dogs. Capi has been in contact with discs and competition environments since a very young age. The good thing about disc dog is its easy adaptation to the breed's primitive function: hunting. And you ask: "how?" Easy!

prey = disc

Once that connection is made, the dog will do everything to catch a frisbee! And being an agile and energetic dog, it just needs to channel all that energy into the frisbee.

There are several competitions worldwide, but they are all basically divided into distance and freestyle (the beautiful "dances" between humans and dogs with discs). At the moment, and because he is still very young and growing, Capi only trains for distance... but of course, sometimes, without much danger, we throw some discs low in freestyle!

This year has been very difficult to compete, due to personal and professional reasons, but we hope for better luck and availability in 2017, and then we can take Capi to the competition.
