The Karelian Bear Dog is a robust and courageous dog, fearless and with very quick reflexes. When hunting (and even when playing) it plays a tough and aggressive game!
Brave, balanced, persistent, a little stubborn but very loyal to his family.

It received its name due to its origin in the former Republic of Karelia where they were used for different types of hunting, especially bear hunting.

We can state that there is no other breed in its origin, but nevertheless some believe it to be Komi (or Zyrian).
Its breeding only began in 1936 with the aim of obtaining a hardy dog with a persistent bark, however the Standard of the breed was only recognized in 1945 and the first dogs were recorded in 1946.

It is one of the rarest and most primitive breeds in the world!
